Description
The route. A chain of junctions "curving wide around the Cairn, reach-side, every one already crossed, already carrying, joining at the spacing traffic and nothing else lays down" — ground Earth's overlay carries as blank. The coalition cut it themselves over years, hull by hull, cutting the corner on their own reckoning and logging each crossing: "a lane laid down the only way a lane is ever laid down, by riding." One of the legs is a crossing three decades stale. Classification
Unlawful at the moment of cutting. Opened in breach of a valid emergency corridor directive; the breach is found proven against Locke, whose commission, Survey standing and seal authority are struck. Irreversible. Authenticated to Earth's own reference and on the ledger past unwriting; no board on the network can strike it and no fleet can close it. Dormant but reopenable. The aperture needs a hull under it; the proven passage stands, and any hull that could raise the custody might reopen it.…
Wound state
The Weir's cost is stated in the series' own cost-law terms — the road widens the network, the load stacks at the downstream pinch, and the nearest sky carries it. Nothing in B3 names or explains the deeper mechanism.
Canon has not fixed this place in space, so the archive does not invent a coordinate for it. It appears in the gazetteer as unplaced rather than on the star map as a guess.
On the record
- The third leg browns her whole port bank; she closes it blind off Vael's relay figures;
- The last leg but one is a dying node whose custody answer keeps guttering out; Vael holds it alive and calls each return until she can close it on the third clean answer;
