Not a road and never to be confused with one. A corridor exists only while it is being held, by chains, at a cost measured in hours; when the holding stops, so does the corridor. Everything difficult about a rescue into a wound is a consequence of that sentence — the passage is finite, stated, and running down while people are still walking out along it.
