The Author

R. S. Breed

R. S. Breed writes literary science fiction about what happens in the space between what the universe is doing and what the people inside it can understand about it. The Fracture Cosmology is a single connected universe — eight series, thirty-five novels planned, eight hundred years of human history held together by one transmission received on a Norwegian island in the middle of the night.

The series is interested in how people live with consequence: the scientist who receives a signal and is not believed, the engineer who builds something that works before understanding what it will do, the archivist who preserves a civilisation's record without knowing which parts will matter. Every protagonist in the Fracture Cosmology is doing their best with incomplete information. So is everyone else.

The universe began with a specific image: a person at a radio telescope at 3am, hearing something they cannot explain, and deciding what to do next. Everything else — 800 years of consequence, a civilisation that sent a warning back in time, and a basement device in Bristol that shouldn’t have worked — followed from that image and that decision.

The books are standalone. The universe rewards readers who read widely within it. Start wherever the premise interests you most.

Long Bio — Press Ready

R. S. Breed is the author of the Fracture Cosmology, a single connected science fiction universe spanning eight centuries of human history across eight series and thirty-five planned novels.

The universe begins in 2047, when radio astronomer Dr. Maren Solberg receives a signal that does not originate from any direction in space. It begins in time. Sent from 756 years in the future. Not a greeting. A warning. The universe asks what happens next — across eight centuries — when the warning arrives before anyone knows what it is warning against.

The Fracture Cosmology is written for readers of Emily St. John Mandel, Andy Weir, Peter Watts, Becky Chambers, and Ursula K. Le Guin: literary science fiction that takes ideas seriously, takes characters more seriously, and trusts readers to do the work.

Every book in the series is a complete, standalone reading experience. There is no required reading order. The connections between series are rewards for readers who find them. Nothing is withheld from a first-time reader. Start wherever the premise interests you most.
