R.S. Breed has been building the Fracture Cosmology universe for twenty years. Before writing fiction, Breed spent two decades in technology, building systems, solving problems, and developing an unhealthy respect for what happens when complex infrastructure fails in ways nobody anticipated. That sensibility runs through the franchise: institutions behave like institutions, technology is furniture until it breaks, and the most interesting science is the kind that makes someone's career very difficult.
