The Sable throat

also: the throat

First in Wide Sky (2312)

The single door in and out of the Sable Reach — the chokepoint every hull must pass.

In full

The Span's mouth onto the Sable Reach, sitting on the stable-space lip of that mouth: geographically outside the reach, controlling the only authenticated way into and out of it. One fixed junction, no alternative. Whoever holds the throat holds the reach — which is why what begins as a navigation marker ends as the most contested point in the era.

Key facts

  • "The single door out of the Sable Reach."
  • A named, not numbered, junction — like the Lantern and the Causeway.
  • The Cairn sits on it.
  • Militarised by Earth once corridor use is rationed.
