Wide Sky
Ostry
A heavy world under a reddening sun — the Ferren home, and the anomaly at the centre of the trilogy.
In full
Landfall of the lost colony ship Kindred around 2192, and home to the Ferren ever since. A heavier world than Earth, under a star that is failing in decades rather than aeons. Its dying sun is not background to the mystery — it is the mystery: the reason a cartographer starts counting stars that should still be burning, and the reason saving these people and understanding the cost of the roads turn out to be the same problem.
Key facts
- Kindred landfall ~2192; five generations of Ferren settlement.
- The sun's failure is the anomaly Vale's finding explains.
- The Ferren sky-records and the Kindred's node-logs are the rare authenticated baseline the proof depends on.
- Its people call the dying of stars the Going-Out.
