Anchorage-aligned systems engineer who tried to force the Rivas Corridor catcher offline after lawful warnings failed — and committed real sabotage to do it. The person waiting at the outpost for the named missing worker, Reuben Dewan (her husband). One character carrying several jobs: the emotional face waiting for someone; 's Anchorage thread ("first splinter signs"); the contaminated-but-true testimony Cross initially distrusts; the genuine crime that makes Marchetti's jurisdiction legitimate; and the person Cross later protects from a dishonest prosecution without pretending she is innocent. Right about the danger, wrong about the method.
