A Combine captain with every selfish reason to pull back who instead holds the line and dies with her ship – Death #1 of (the "old-enemy-holds" beat: the forced alliance became real, early and surprising). The point of her death: the coalition Cross built out of necessity becomes something people die for. Her loss is compounded by a coordination failure — the network mis-timed the support that should have reached her — ambiguous and unnamed at the time (an early, un-understood instance of the network-war keystone). NOT Dahl (Dahl survives, dirty / politically ruined — do not conflate).
