Chief Medical Officer of the ISV Lodestar — the ship's body-count conscience and the captain's off-duty mirror. She is the one person aboard who outranks Cross in age and outflanks him in plain talk, the place he can stop performing. Warm, blunt, tired in the good way; the oldest of the seniors and the least impressed by the golden age, having patched up too much of its cost. Her arc bends toward letting her wall down for the captain when his certainty shatters, and toward forgiving herself the frontier patients she could not save.
