Ostry
The Ferren world — a heavy world under a dying sun, in the Sable Reach.
Type
planet (Ferren colony world; reddening / failing sun)
Within

Founded
~2192 (Ferren landfall — the *Kindred*)
Position
Canon has not established a position
Description
"a heavier world and a reddening sun." The Ferren idiom names the dying of stars the "Going-Out" — "the sky has been going out since our grandparents." The failing star is the rare authenticated baseline (Vessa's sky-records + the Kindred node-logs) that lets Vale prove the cost-law's true behaviour: saving Ostry and understanding why its star is failing in decades not aeons are the same problem (FOUNDATION §4).
Classification
Inhabited colony world (human-descended Ferren) in the Sable Reach.
Population
The Ferren: Odai (speaker/leader), Vessa (records), Tekka (youth), Maro (the refusal, leader of the stayers, †). Now largely a diaspora-people (resettlement world, off-corridor) plus 38 stayers.
Canon has not fixed this place in space, so the archive does not invent a coordinate for it. It appears in the gazetteer as unplaced rather than on the star map as a guess.
On the record
- ~2192 The Kindred makes landfall; the Ferren colony begins.
- ~2312 First contact (Sethi); the evacuation under raider harassment. Evacuation ledger: population 1,900 → 372 early keel launches · 1,140 final four keels · 51 aboard the Dawnward · 44 dead · 293 remained (≈110 could not be lifted; the rest stayed by choice or to hold infrastructure). Silva dies holding the launch corridor.
- ~2313–14 Ostry's sun failed ahead of schedule ("the nonlinear law arriving in real time"); second evacuation of the 293 = 229 lifted / 26 dead / 38 staying. The 38 remain under the failing sun.
