The Hart Colony

Hart, on Fifteen: the settlement that terminal black is measured against. Drawn as a plan, not a star chart — the freight road from South Thermal to the Foundry gate, the nine kilometres of main out to Tolliver on the lake, the array on its rise, the Launch Spine at the strategic edge of town with the North Flats beside it where a station core comes down. The three distances the books state are honoured; the rest is the place register's relations, laid out so the search chapters can be followed on it.

Busy, then the last mass relocation route, then a dark ruin. Fractured shelter and rescue, then lost — remembered by children. School Ring · Hart Primary Yard 134·032 Medical Terrace — Hospital and training centre. Exterior rescue, then failure; a dark shell. Medical Terrace 148·057 Greenhouse Ring — Decades of mature ecology and food. Sacrificed as a heat wall; twenty-nine counted on it on the Saturday and twenty-four alive on the Tuesday. Seed memory only. Greenhouse Ring 124·-18 South Thermal · the Old Works — The geothermal plant and the legacy pressure shells beside it. The refuge: number three circulator upstream of every warm room, the block two corridor where people lie down, the fabrication bay that becomes Medical. South Thermal · the Old Works 148·-47 Eight-Bell — Habitat Eight memorial and storage — the early pressure-disaster memory. Early refuge, then lost. Eight-Bell The freight road · four pump houses — Between South Thermal and the Foundry gate, every pump house and valve chamber with a main running through it, opening on the Chief's loop keys. Falzon walked it to the fence and did the arithmetic. Booked, then shelter and research core, then the evidence commit site. The Foundry Block 220·-54 Launch Spine — Flight, cargo and emergency craft — the strategic edge of town. Two response hulls in its bays, one of them the way out. Launch Spine 201·035 North Flats · the recovery site — Survey and new housing expansion, then the first major abandonment, then the graded ground the station core lands on, a short walk from the Launch Spine bays. North Flats · the recovery site The Grange — The buried 2303 landing-pattern reactor — built over and never tied into the grid, black-started off a printed manual when everything else had gone dark.
