The Concentration Finding — Figure 1

Everything the age believes about its own future is the flat line. It says the cost of crossing is a tax on the whole endowment — spread thin, shared out, comfortably far away — and that it makes no difference whether a region's traffic runs on a thousand routes or on one. The other line is what the authenticated records actually do. Note where Earth sits: the busiest place in the network, and near the safe end of the axis, because the axis is not totals.
