Captain Daniel Cross's ship — and a new kind of ISCA hull for a harder era. Where the great Meridian explorers put people down by lander and never make planetfall themselves, the Lodestar is built to fly whole into an atmosphere and set down on her own gear — flown into Sennen's half-made sky in a dust-storm. She is armed, where her forebears carried only instruments, and her weapons are precise enough to do the one thing the frontier asked of them: act as a moving catcher, altering a falling pod's vector to defend a rescue.
