ISV Endurance — Damage Control Assessment

Fleet Command damage control assessment filed in the hours following the loss of cold fold and structural failure aboard ISV Endurance during her maiden voyage. The vessel was flung off the charted network into an uncharted, spent region. No relay. No charts. Filed by Chief Engineer D. Ferris, Day 1.

DAMAGE CONTROL ASSESSMENT · FORM ISCA-FC-DCA-3

ASSESSMENT NO: ISCA-FC-DCA-2240-EX01-001
DATE FILED: DAY 1 · POST-TRANSIT
VESSEL: ISV ENDURANCE · EX-01
CLASS: MERIDIAN-CLASS DEEP EXPLORER
LOCATION: UNCHARTED · FAR POCKET
CAUSE: FOLD-DRIVE SABOTAGE
HULL STATUS: AFT THIRD SHEARED
CASUALTY STATUS: 58 DEAD · CONFIRMED

1 · SUMMARY

ISV Endurance (EX-01), Meridian-class deep explorer, built Houston-orbital yards and commissioned 2240, suffered catastrophic loss of cold fold during her maiden transit. Subsequent inspection of the drive core establishes the collapse as deliberate: the fold was sabotaged and failed mid-transit. The vessel was thrown clear of the charted network into an uncharted, spent region. No relay contact. No chart correspondence. No return route is currently identifiable.

The fold collapse imparted severe structural shear across the after sections. The aft third of the hull separated at the structural collars and is not recoverable. Complement at departure was approximately 240. Fifty-eight (58) are confirmed dead. Command has devolved by emergency authority (see §5). This assessment is filed as the first full-vessel damage survey post-transit.

2 · STRUCTURAL DAMAGE

Primary failure mode: collar separation at the aft mating interface under fold-shear load. The after modules parted as a unit and were lost. Forward and midships sections retain pressure integrity with localised frame breaches as tabulated below.

COMPARTMENT / FRAME STATUS
Supply Modules 1–3 Lost with aft section. Not recoverable.
Berthing Module 4 Lost with aft section. Sheared at collar.
Hydroponics / Gardens Lost with aft section. No feed reserve aft.
Frames 31–34 Breached. Compartment sealed. Patch pending.
Frame 40s run Venting to vacuum. Isolation in progress.
Forward / midships hull Pressure integrity held. Collars nominal.

3 · PROPULSION & POWER

The fold drive sustained the initiating failure and is offline pending teardown. Inspection confirms tampering consistent with deliberate sabotage of the cold-fold assembly. One (1) drive commit remains available within current safety margin; no further fold is sanctioned until repairs are complete. The vessel is otherwise under sublight power with main bus stable forward of the breach line.

INSTRUMENT NOTE: Local free-energy floor reads HIGH and climbing against all reference baselines. Background stellar output across the region is observed to gutter. No model fits. Anomaly logged and filed for review.

4 · ORDNANCE & STORES

Close-defence magazine commissioned at 1,140 rounds. Early engagement against unidentified local contacts has drawn the count down at a rate the current loadout will not sustain; expenditure is trending well above any planned resupply interval, and no resupply is available in this region.

With Supply Modules 1–3 and the gardens lost aft, the vessel has no growing stock. Crew sustenance is now drawn from printer loaf against a finite feedstock reserve. Rationing protocol is recommended pending §7 disposition.

5 · CASUALTIES

CONFIRMED DEAD · 58 · COMMANDING OFFICER KILLED

CAPTAIN AARON VANCE

Commanding Officer, ISV Endurance. Killed on the bridge by console explosion at the moment of fold collapse. Command does not survive him aboard.

FIRST OFFICER · CRITICAL

First Officer Daniel Holt — head trauma; comatose. Prognosis uncertain. Unfit for command for the foreseeable term.

By emergency authority, command of ISV Endurance devolves to Undersecretary Julian Mercer, head of the Geneva oversight delegation, acting in concert with Second Officer Maya Sloane. The remaining fifty-six (56) dead are recorded against the aft-section loss and the frame breaches; a full manifest reconciliation follows under separate cover.

6 · NAVIGATIONAL STATUS

No relay beacon is detectable. No charted junction corresponds to local stellar geometry. The network is not reachable from present position. The vessel is operating on dead reckoning only — position and heading maintained by internal log against observed drift, with no external fix. A return route does not presently exist on any chart aboard.

7 · DISPOSITION

Recommend: seal and isolate all aft-line breaches forward of the lost section; conserve the single remaining drive commit until fold teardown and repair are complete; institute strict stores and ordnance rationing; refer the free-energy anomaly (§3) to Chief Science Officer Naomi Hale for standing observation.

The vessel is structurally survivable forward of the breach line and under sublight power. She is not, at this time, capable of return. Acting command authority to direct.
