The Six
Fragments

Each fragment is a compressed informational structure — not a code or a language, but a grammar: a set of relationships between ideas that, when properly held in mind, allows the holder to recognise patterns that others cannot.

The fragments do not grant knowledge. They grant a particular kind of attention. Carriers do not know they are carriers. The fragments are neither malevolent nor benevolent. They are information that wants to complete itself.

S1

2047–2075+

The Silence Between Stars

Dr. Maren Solberg

Dr. Maren Solberg (2047 — direct)

Fragment Expression

Ability to hear signal in noise with uncanny precision. Pattern recognition in non-human sequences. Finds the anomalous obvious when others find it invisible.

Inheritance Note

The fragment passes from Maren to her daughter Freya, to Freya's daughter Astrid (b. 2056), and through the Solberg line to a descendant who appears in CX3a.

S2

2089–2122

The Pale Arithmetic

Yuki Harada

Dr. Sari Harada (2047 — absorbed while encoding the Ara-5 cognitive substrate)

Fragment Expression

Architectural thinking in law. The ability to construct a logical system that accounts for conditions that do not exist yet. Sees the future of an argument before it has been made.

Inheritance Note

Passed from Sari Harada to Yuki. The fragment that enables the Ara legal architecture is also, indirectly, the fragment that the Pryce Protocols will eventually abuse.

S3

2094–2130

The Weight of Water

Kwame Asante-Nkrumah

Dr. Ama Nkrumah (2047 — absorbed at the Accra Institute; passed through family pattern-recognition traditions)

Fragment Expression

River-system thinking at civilisational scale. Can model complex interdependencies intuitively. Reads the behaviour of massive slow-moving systems the way others read faces.

Inheritance Note

The fragment passed through Ama Nkrumah's family as a tradition of thinking in systems before it coalesced in Kwame.

S4

2241–2290

The Deep Grammar

Commander Ysolde Pryce

Griff Pryce (2047 — Swansea University Array; absorbed serendipitously; expressed as family instinct for anomaly-detection)

Fragment Expression

Anomaly detection. Finds the thing that is wrong in a system that appears normal. The only person in her field who has never filed an anomaly as equipment failure.

Inheritance Note

The fragment passes through generations as an instinct. By Ysolde, it has become a professional methodology. The Pryce Protocols are, in part, the fragment trying to account for what it detected.

S5

2780–2830

The Long Burn

Ambassador Cassia Wren

Earth general field (2047 — diffuse; fragment remains latent until the Long Burn era; coalesces in Cassia Wren)

Fragment Expression

Visible to non-human senses as a faint luminescence. Alien species who know about the Origination recognise her as a fragment-carrier before she knows it herself.

Inheritance Note

The only fragment that did not attach to a specific bloodline in 2047. The Long Burn civilisation and Accord species have been expecting it to coalesce for centuries.

S6

2495–2542

The Remnant Shore

Tamar Haidari

Fatima Haidari (2047 — Cape Verde Data Preservation Society; absorbed; expressed as archival methodology)

Fragment Expression

Preservation instinct at civilisational scale. Chooses what to keep with an accuracy that seems impossible without knowing what will matter. The archive functions because she holds it.

Inheritance Note

The fragment passed as a family practice of preservation — what Fatima called "the habit of keeping" — before it became something more structural in Tamar.

"The fragments do not grant knowledge. They grant a particular kind of attention."
